Background

Cherish is a small charity with a big vision. It was set up in 1991 with a single aim: to reach out to children and families and offer them relief from hardship and crisis. Our work began on the streets of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and the backwaters of Blantyre, southern Malawi, supporting single parent families and AIDS orphans.

Over a decade later we are continuing to work both locally and internationally with further projects in Uganda and Nigeria, coming alongside indigenous communities to provide financial support and practical assistance.

Irene Bernadette Moses - The Cherish Fund founder

The Founder

Irene Bernadette Moses, was born in 1940 and raised in Malawi, Central Africa. She came to the U.K in 1963 to train as a nurse. She then continued on to Special Care of Sick Babies, Family Planning and Prevention of Diseases. She has worked as a Teaching Community Midwifery Sister for 16 years.

Irene writes:-
"During this time of achievement I knew of God, but my life was too full of other things to give him any time. It was in 1990 whilst I was undergoing a traumatic period of divorce that God made a way for me to draw closer to Him. My life changed, I felt free. I found peace in my heart, for I began to know God as my own personal friend and Saviour. I was indeed free. Never before had I experienced such a wonderful personal relationship. I felt overwhelmed. In appreciation, I gave myself wholly to God. I wanted to do His will. To help other people that go through life’s distressing experiences, and to share with them a way to cope.

I hid the vision in my heart until 1991, when the buried seed began to grow - The Cherish Fund was founded."
